Emotions can be taken very lightly but they have a hugely important role; they motivate us and guide us through life.
Normal human experience involves a broad range of emotions, and learning to manage them can assist people to sidestep unhealthy choices made in an attempt to feel better. Examples of unhealthy emotional choices are abusing alcohol, taking illicit drugs, smoking, domestic and other violence, self harm or suicide. Some unhealthy behaviours do indeed work in the short term (by giving temporary release from emotional pain), so they are reinforced and therefore more likely to be repeated.
Sadly, short term strategies are not always so great in the long term. This is where I can help.
